Placer County agencies have snagged a hefty haul of eight awards at this year's California Association of Public Information Officials’ EPIC Awards, shining a spotlight on the county's prowess in the field of communication. The annual awards bash honors California's most ingenious and impactful work in various communication and marketing disciplines, ranging from newsletters and photography to websites and podcasting.
So when Placer County CEO Daniel Chatigny sings praises of his team, citing that “Communication is so integral to our county’s mission to be open and transparent in all of our work,” as Placer County reports, you can believe there's a solid reason behind it. With seven EPIC awards scooped up and an Award of Distinction taken home by the Placer County Health & Human Services, the local teams are having more than just a moment—they're setting a standard.
Among the top honors, Placer County’s efforts spanned a variety of categories, from an Internal Communications award for the Health & Human Services Center’s Staff Transition, to a win in the Podcasts category for the engrossing “The Placer Life During World War II” podcast miniseries. With a strategic combo of in-house and consultant-supported work, the awards also recognized Placer's grit in addressing critical issues, such as spotlighting the “Fighting the Fentanyl Crisis in Placer County” in a public service announcement produced by the Placer County District Attorney’s office.
Lauded for their social media savvy, Placer's communications team received an award for an impromptu response to the Boulder Blast on Old Foresthill Road. Also, in a nod to the more traditional side of info-sharing, CEO Daniel Chatigny’s newsletter “The County Line with CEO Daniel Chatigny” took an EPIC award. Managing to walk away with the Award of Distinction for Best Small Shop was the Placer County Health & Human Services, proving that even the less visible threads of public service communication are not overlooked by CAPIO’s keen eye for quality.
