Last night, a fire erupted in the detached garage of a Montgomery County home, causing significant damage to the property and the exterior of a neighboring house. According to WJLA, the fire broke out around 8:40 p.m. at a residence on the 9400 block of Holbrook Drive in Potomac, Maryland. Radiant heat from the garage blaze was intense enough to set the adjacent home's exterior ablaze, although, fortunately, all residents evacuated safely without sustaining injuries.
Efforts by approximately 50 firefighters managed quickly to contain the majority of the fire despite the inherent challenges posed by the two vehicles parked within the garage. As per a report by WUSA9, the initial cause of the fire appears to be related to recharging batteries, as stated by Pete Piringer, a spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. "The fire likely started from recharging batteries," Piringer said, "because battery chargers were found around the area where it started." However, it was noted that other possible ignition sources could not be ruled out.
Three people have been displaced as a result of the blaze. "No one was hurt in the fire," Pete Piringer also informed DC News Now, and damages are estimated at approximately $200,000.
