The Queens District Attorney's office welcomed a new wave of legal minds as Melinda Katz swore in six Assistant District Attorneys hailing from prestigious institutions across the nation. According to an announcement from the Queen's District Attorney's office, the cohort is set to infuse the office with their academic acumen and commitment. “I am happy to welcome this impressive group of talented young lawyers to the Queens District Attorney’s office. They chose to start their prosecutorial careers in Queens and join us in our mission to keep our borough safe, while also ensuring a fairer and more just criminal justice system for all.”

The new ADAs are kicking off their roles with a rigorous, six-week training period designed to swiftly bring them up to speed on their responsibilities. They will have the opportunity to closely interact with experienced members of the office, including the office's executive staff and seasoned ADAs. The program is packed with lectures and workshops, but goes beyond the walls of the law – these newcomers will get to visit key NYPD facilities and will also get to ride along with officers, giving them a firsthand look at the city's law enforcement in action.

After completing their orientation, the ADAs will circulate through various bureaus to gain a comprehensive experience. Their rotation will cover the Intake Bureau, Domestic Violence Bureau, the Criminal Court Bureau, and the Appeals Bureau. This is a crucial part of their development, as understanding the different facets of the DA's office is vital for these fresh faces. The new prosecutors are Naomi-Beth Carter, Laurane Fumex, Emily Jilson, Jessica Laguerre, Elizabeth Mullin, and Maria Simonova, representing an array of top law schools from Emory to Harvard, as detailed by the Queens D.A.'s office.

Leading the charge on this initiative are Assistant District Attorneys Courtney Finnerty and Courtney Charles, under the watchful eye of Executive Assistant District Attorney Pishoy Yacoub. They are tasked with the tall order to rapidly acclimate these new legal professionals to the diverse and multifaceted challenges they will face.
