Yesterday, the Raleigh Police Department reported that the incident began around 4 p.m. on Appliance Court, involving a gray Acura. The chase weaved through the streets, finally coming to an end on Poole Road and Donald Ross Drive. As per CBS 17, a civilian vehicle was struck during the pursuit, but, fortunately, no one was injured.
Witnesses near the scene were attendees of a Good Friday mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Peter Hurtten recounted that he and his friends ended up witnessing more than they expected when they "turned around to see so many police officers out the window." He shared his relief with CBS 17 that everyone was safe. Meanwhile, Andrew Baird expressed his gratitude that no harm came to bystanders or those involved, also conveying his concerns to CBS 17.
As for the suspects, two individuals were taken into custody, their identities and potential charges have yet to be disclosed by the authorities. The Raleigh Police Department cleared the scene to resume its investigation into the armed carjacking and the police chase that followed. According to ABC 11, one other vehicle sustained minor damage in the ordeal.
Local resident Josue Fajardo, who lives near where the pursuit concluded, told WRAL that he was surprised to suddenly find himself in the midst of a severe police action. "When I saw it was a real car crash and saw the amount of cops, I was like 'oh, this is not a car crash, they are chasing after this guy,'" Fajardo recounted. For those attending the church service, like Dominic Mack, the events outside created a palpable tension that momentarily paused their service, as shared with WRAL. "We were all really concerned; we stopped for about five minutes," Mack explained, recounting the brief disruption before the service continued.
