Raley's supermarket chain has agreed to a settlement with the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office and other regional District Attorney offices, totaling nearly $400,000 in penalties and costs. The settlement is related to the sale and display of expired over-the-counter drugs. According to the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office, the judgment was filed in Yolo County Superior Court and follows earlier compliance issues from a previous court order.

Raley's did not follow rules to keep expired over-the-counter drugs off its shelves. A similar case happened in Sacramento in 2019. Raley's has to pay $278,000 in penalties and $111,000 in costs. District Attorney Thien Ho said, “This action will help ensure consumers get quality products with the maximum effectiveness they deserve when they purchase OTC drugs,” as reported by the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office.

Sacramento County will receive $57,000 as part of a settlement shared among several counties related to product expiration laws. Raley’s is also donating $5,000 to Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services to help provide products for local families. The Sacramento District Attorney’s Office stated, “Enforcing retailers' compliance with product expiration laws is one more way our office is helping to protect the public’s health and safety.”
