Following recent storms and the start of spring, the Rancho Cordova Police Department posted on Facebook to warn residents about a scam involving fake roofing companies. These companies offer “free roof inspections” and then falsely claim that repairs are needed, as reported by the Rancho Cordova Police Department.
The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning about a roofing scam involving door-to-door contractors. These individuals offer roofing services to homeowners and, once hired, may cause damage to the roof or claim there is existing damage. In some instances, they begin "repair" work without clear consent and later request payment. Payments are sometimes requested through credit cards or home equity lines of credit, with charges often reaching several thousand dollars, as stated by the Rancho Cordova Police Department.
According to the Rancho Cordova Police Department on their Facebook page, residents are urged to exercise caution when approached by unsolicited contractors, including roofers. The department recommends asking for license numbers and other company details to verify their legitimacy. Those who are unsure about a contractor or believe they have been scammed are encouraged to report it to the Rancho Cordova Police Department and the Better Business Bureau.
