The Rocklin Police Department has reported the capture of an individual linked to a series of organized retail crimes across multiple counties. In detailing this action, the department credited their COPPS (Community Oriented Police and Problem Solving) unit with strategizing the perpetrator's arrest, an operation that ended with a chase through a parking lot and ultimately an arrest involving the use of a police truck and a drone.
According to the Rocklin Police Department social media post, the suspect, noted for his recurrent thefts in the region, had returned to Rocklin only to find himself engaged in a foot race against technology and law enforcement resourcefulness. Upon his attempt to escape, "he learned very quickly that he can't outrun a police truck, a drone, and COPPS." the social media update read.
The police detailed that the intercepted suspect was booked for a current theft and for resisting arrest. Moreover, the suspect faces charges in a secondary case involving aggravated felony theft from earlier Rocklin incidents. This aggregation of offenses earned the suspect a judge-granted No Bail hold, meaning he will be detained without the option for bail. The Rocklin Police Department's strike against this ORC suspect represents a tactical success for the team and a foothold in the fight against the larger issue of organized theft plaguing retail sectors.
