Marin County's own has made headlines with a sizable drug and guns bust in San Rafael. According to a social media post by the Marin County Sheriff's Office, detectives launched an investigation into a suspect, Jesse James Starr, back in February 2025 over allegations of methamphetamine manufacturing and distribution in the area.
Starr, who was released from prison two years prior after a decade behind bars for narcotics-related crimes, is also currently on federal probation. The Specialized Investigative Unit moved last Thursday, executing a probation search at Starr's residence and a connected storage facility. The haul was significant: detectives uncovered a trove of 14 firearms, which included assault rifles and stolen weapons, some appearing to have been personally manufactured by the suspect.
In addition to the artillery, the detectives reportedly stumbled upon what seemed to be a meth lab and confiscated substantial quantities of various drugs. Among the seized substances were approximately one pound of methamphetamine, 18 grams of fentanyl, 12 grams of suspected ketamine, and 2 grams of heroin.
The repercussions for Starr were immediate and severe. He was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail, facing around ten felony charges. With the gravity of the crimes considered, a steep bail enhancement was submitted and authorized for $1,000,000.00.
