Early Monday morning, Santa Monica Police Department officers pulled over a vehicle on Ocean Way and Bay Street after identifying the car's plates as stolen. It was about 3:15 a.m. when police made the stop, and things escalated quickly when officers spotted a handgun within easy view inside the car. The driver, whose attempt to slink behind a false identity did not go unnoticed, was arrested at the scene.
According to a post on the Santa Monica Police Department's Facebook page, the individual is now facing multiple charges. These charges include felon in possession of a firearm, concealed firearm in a vehicle, providing false identification to an officer, and false impersonation. Further digging into the driver's background unveiled an outstanding warrant for burglary from a California city.
The community is being reminded, and indeed encouraged, by the Santa Monica Police to report any behavior that strikes them as suspicious by calling the department at 310-458-8491.
