Seattle's Mayor Bruce Harrell is looking for a few good women and men to fill four vacant positions on the Landmarks Preservation Board. As reported by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, the board has openings for an At-Large member, Historian, Finance expert, and Structural Engineer. This 12-member panel is key to the city's efforts in designating local landmarks and reviewing modifications to these treasured sites.
The roles are diverse, with two slots for architects and historians, one for a structural engineer and others representing urban planning, real estate, and finance. A "Get Engaged" member is also reserved for an individual between 18 and 29 years old. Once nominated by the Mayor, candidates must secure the Seattle City Council's approval to clinch their posts. While volunteering on this board is uncompensated, it is an opportunity to contribute significant hours—about 10 per month—to preserving Seattle's history. Board meetings are scheduled for the first and third Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m.
Those who are urged to safeguard Seattle's architectural history can send a letter of interest and a resume to [email protected] by May 19. Submissions via email are favored, though traditional mail is also an option, addressed to the Landmarks Preservation Board Coordinator, Erin Doherty, at the specified Seattle Department of Neighborhoods P.O. box.
