The City of St. Petersburg has extended its deadline for local organizations to apply for the Community Impact Summer Enhancement Grant, which aims to bolster summer programs that serve young people. This extension gives more time for groups focusing on enriching the lives of the youth, academically and socially, to seek out these funds. Grant applications will now be open until May 2, as announced by the City of St. Petersburg.

"Education and Youth Opportunities are one of our top priorities," St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch stated, emphasizing the importance of keeping young people engaged throughout the summer months. The City of St. Petersburg intention is to not just occupy students during their break, but to actively engage to uplift them in multiple facets of life. Welch further explained, "The City's Community Impact Summer Enhancement Grant is designed to support and empower organizations that provide enriching summer experiences for St. Pete's youth."

Applicants vying for the grant must exhibit a history of working with underserved or at-risk youth, potentially in collaboration with community organizations. Moreover, they should be entities that routinely deliver programs or initiatives specifically tailored for the summer season. The application process, outlined on the city’s news release, presents clear criteria for potential applicants to follow.

Financial support up to the amount of $35,000 can be requested by organizations, with the city pledging a total of $100,000 in grants for this period. The allocation of these funds will be determined based on the evaluation of the applications and the availability of said funds. This provides an opportunity for many programs to potentially gain the support needed to expand or enhance their offerings, benefiting the youth of St. Petersburg immensely.
