After more than four years since the tragic incident, Howard County Police have arrested and charged Edward Robinson, 31, with the murder of Rabiah Ahmad and her baby girl, Ahja. The shooting took place on July 31, 2020, in Columbia, Maryland, where Ahmad, who was 28 weeks pregnant at the time, succumbed to her injuries, and her baby passed away a few days later following an emergency cesarean section. As reported by FOX Baltimore, Robinson faces multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder and second-degree murder, among others.
Detectives reportedly received a tip last September that was instrumental in identifying Robinson as a suspect, leading to his eventual arrest in Gaithersburg. According to information detailed by WBAL-TV, Robinson had a dispute with residents of the house where Ahmad was staying, which allegedly led him to fire shots at the residence as a so-called warning intentionally.
The Howard County Police stated in their announcement that bullets found at the scene matched the caliber of a gun recovered from Robinson's home. In addition, WJLA reported that Police Chief Gregory Der expressed satisfaction in providing "some sense of closure" to Ahmad's family. "Our detectives never rest until they get justice for a grieving family," said Der.
Robinson is currently held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center. According to WJLA, the investigation into the shooting has been a significant challenge, with Police actively pursuing leads and gathering evidence over the years. "Nearly five years have passed since Rabiah and baby Ahja’s senseless deaths," Howard County Executive Calvin Ball stated, as mentioned in the announcement by the Howard County Police. Ball expressed his gratitude for "the efforts of the Howard County Police Department in identifying and arresting their shooter." The family of Ahmad and her baby now await the judicial process as they seek justice for the lost lives.
