
A man wanted on second-degree murder charges after a police chase turned tragic has been taken into custody after a barricade situation. The Alexander County Sheriff's Office received a call concerning a domestic disturbance at around 3:00 a.m. yesterday, at a Bethlehem Community residence. according to the Taylorsville Times, upon their arrival, a woman and a child were escorted from the home, leaving Chanceler Timothy Johnson, a 25-year-old white male, alone inside.
Johnson, who had outstanding indictments for Second Degree Murder from Catawba County, remains inside the residence for about two and a half hours before being apprehended by deputies. These charges are linked to the deaths of a mother and son in an incident involving a Hickory police officer back in 2023, as reported by WBTV.
The standoff on Lail Lane concluded with Johnson's arrest and subsequent medical evaluation after he injured himself while causing significant damage to a vehicle and the residence. WSOCTV notes the family affected by the fatal chase was unaware of the updated charges until the news outlet informed them.
The said chase, which ended with a Hickory police officer's SUV striking Cynthia Fox and her 12-year-old son Michael's minivan, has now resulted in calls for charging the involved former Hickory police officer. Alexander County Sheriff Chad Pennell commended the cooperation between departments, thanking the Taylorsville Police Department and Alexander County EMS for their aid in resolving the standoff, as stated in the Taylorsville Times. Johnson will face additional charges in Alexander County for damage to personal property and resisting a public officer.
