In a grim turn of events on Fox Island, what was initially reported as a suicide is now being investigated as a homicide by the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. A 27-year-old woman was found dead last Wednesday, and detectives have since arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree murder.
The call that sparked the response of deputies came in around 5:30 AM from a male reporting his girlfriend's suicide, according to a social media post by the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, the scene upon their arrival at the 800 block of Fox Drive was met with a pause, an aftermath waiting to unfold its dark embrace and after a "lengthy investigation," forensic evidence gathered told a story that contradicted the caller's claim leading to the suspicion that the woman did not take her own life.
The evidence prompted authorities to shift their approach to the case, and the suspicion that the death of the young woman was not a self-inflicted act has resulted in her boyfriend facing severe charges. The 29-year-old suspect was taken into custody and has now been booked into the Pierce County Jail, with the stark label of 'Murder 2nd Degree' hanging over the case.
