In the early hours of Saturday, Simi Valley Police officers identified a vehicle driving without headlights and subsequently discovered it was stolen after running the plates. According to a release by the Simi Valley Police Department, the officers attempted to pull over the vehicle near Erringer Road and Cochran Street, which led to a chase when the car fled the scene.
The pursuit ended abruptly after the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to run off the roadway and overturn near First and Flower Glen streets, around 1.5 miles from the initial encounter. KTLA reports the crashed silver SUV was found upturned next to a wall, with debris from the vehicle strewn across the road.
First responders discovered three female juveniles inside the wreckage, one aged 13 and the other two aged 14, all sustaining significant injuries. The Simi Valley Police Department confirmed that the teens were transported to a local trauma center for treatment. Their names and conditions have not been released, following the protocol for minors involved in crimes.
The juveniles faced multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy, and felony evading. They were also found to be in possession of burglary tools, an element of intent that complicates their narrative far beyond mere joyriding. While the immediacy of their medical needs took precedence, they were released to the care of hospital staff and their guardians following the incident, as noted by KTLA.
The investigation into how and why these minors came to possess and operate the stolen vehicle is ongoing. As more information becomes available, further updates to this story will be provided, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding this event and its aftermath.
