Three individuals posed as part of a food delivery service to scout homes for potential theft, only to be apprehended by Alhambra police. The incident, which unfolded in the 3300 block of Balzac Street, saw the suspects using the pretense of a food delivery to check if a residence was vacant.
The suspects, identified as Kennisha Powell of Lake Elsinore, Dejon Brown of Baldwin Park, and Jerry Mullens of Los Angeles, were arrested after one of them, posing as an Uber Eats driver, inquired with homeowners if they had ordered DoorDash. This confusion of food delivery apps was part of the ploy to determine if anyone was home. The Alhambra Police Department posted to Instagram saying, "We don’t think she even knew which app she was pretending to work for."
After confirming that the house was empty, the fake delivery person signaled the go-ahead to her accomplices, who then jumped a fence and forced their way into the property. Unfortunately for them, their activities were cut short when they noticed the presence of police officers outside. In a misguided effort to communicate with her partners, the lookout attempted to text a warning but was caught in the process, as stated in the Alhambra Police Department's Instagram post.
The capture of the trio was aided by "Doggo," a K-9 unit, along with additional K-9 units from the Pasadena Police Department. The suspects were booked at APD Jail on suspicion of residential burglary. According to FOX LA, authorities are further investigating to determine if the arrested individuals are connected to other similar incidents. The Alhambra community has been urged to stay watchful and report suspicious activities to the police.
