Los Angeles is grappling with a surge in gun violence following a recent shooting at an L.A. bus stop that left three injured, including a woman in critical condition. According to KTLA, the incident occurred Monday just after 4:00 p.m. near Vermont Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Exposition Park. The victims of the shooting, two 16-year-old boys and a 50-year-old woman, were all found with gunshot wounds.
A heavy presence of police and paramedics, which was reported by the Citizen App, attended the scene. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) stated they are searching for two Hispanic male suspects, believed to be between the ages of 15 and 18. Authorities shared that this violence might be gang-related, according to a spokesperson to KTLA. The investigation is ongoing, and few details have been released concerning the motivation behind the assault.
Amid reports of multiple shootings in the South LA area, including three over the previous weekend that resulted in two deaths, this latest act of violence adds to the distressing pattern. FOX LA provided additional context, noting that a violent weekend saw the death of a 13-year-old girl who was shot in the head inside her house and a woman who was found shot several times between 102nd and 103rd near San Pedro.
As for the current shooting, LAPD has yet to provide a detailed description of the suspects, and it's unclear what exactly precipitated the shooting. Efforts by medical personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department to stabilize the situation took two of the victims to the hospital, including the woman to the hospital, who is in critical condition as reported by ABC7.
