A major collision involving three vehicles, one of which is a semi-truck, has disrupted traffic on I-95 Southbound near the SR 206 interchange. The accident, which occurred at the 306 mile marker, has resulted in injuries and an active diesel leak. According to a Facebook post from St. Johns County, one person has been transported to a local hospital in stable condition following the incident.
Following the crash, two lanes on the southbound side of the highway were closed, creating significant delays as emergency units worked at the scene. The post from St. Johns County also states, "Crews are currently mitigating an active diesel leak on the semi." The traffic issues posed by the shutdown have since been resolved, with all lanes reopened to the flow of traffic.
Motorists in the area were advised to take alternative routes if possible while the cleanup and investigation were underway. The responsiveness of the first responders to both the accident victims, and the environmental hazard posed by the diesel spill has helped to bring the situation under control efficiently.
The truck accident shows yet again the potential risks associated with heavy traffic and large vehicles sharing congested roads. While the cause of the accident has not been disclosed, St. Johns County’s update on Facebook ensured the public was informed of the traffic situation as it developed. The reopened lanes mark a return to normalcy on the I-95, but the impact of the accident lingers as the involved parties begin a likely long recovery.
