Early Monday morning, a devastating rollover crash on the westbound 60 Freeway in Chino resulted in the deaths of two people and critical injuries to two others, including a baby, according to KTLA. The California Highway Patrol reported the incident occurred just west of the Ramona Avenue onramp around 2:00 a.m. The aftermath closed the freeway for several hours.
The baby, who was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, was found under the damaged car. Two unidentified adult victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third adult and the baby were taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, as confirmed by Chino Valley Fire District spokesperson Dean Smith in a statement obtained by KTLA. The freeway was reopened shortly before 6:00 a.m. following the incident.
FOXLA reported that a semi-truck driver came upon the scene and, although initially not finding anyone inside the vehicle, he could hear a baby crying. The subsequent search revealed the critically injured baby. It is also believed that the accident caused the two other occupants to be ejected from the car, who were found deceased at the scene. The names and conditions of the surviving victims remain unknown at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, reports ABC7. Details about the victims are yet to be released.
