Two women have died following a collision at a Los Angeles gas station, an incident that has left another victim hospitalized, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash, which took place shortly after midnight near the intersection of Normandie Avenue and Century Boulevard, involved two vehicles, one of which struck a utility pole before coming to rest at a Chevron gas station, reported NBC Los Angeles.
The victims, who were passengers in a Honda CR-V, were pronounced deceased at the scene, while a third individual was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries. The collision left four others injured, with a Buick Envision also involved was left in the middle of the street bearing major damage. Video footage from KTLA showed the gray Honda SUV resting dangerously close to a gas pump, having taken down a traffic light in the process. Both vehicles reportedly sustained serious damage, and while the immediate cause of the accident remains unclear, authorities have confirmed it wasn't a result of a hit-and-run, and they are investigating whether a driver ran a red light and whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident, as KTLA and ABC7 noted.
The intersection where the tragedy occurred was closed until 5:45 a.m., causing significant morning disruption as documented in the CHP traffic incident log. However, the Los Angeles Fire Department promptly responded to the scene, where they pronounced the two individuals deceased, then transported the four others to a local hospital with moderate to major injuries. According to the CBS Los Angeles coverage, the Honda was traveling eastbound on Century Boulevard and was involved in the crash with the Buick that was headed northbound on Normandie Avenue.
