U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. celebrated his first 100 days in office by sharing a significant reduction in violent crime within the District. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, there has been a reported 25 percent decrease in violent crime rates across the area.
Martin, who is also a part of President Trump's "Make DC Safe and Beautiful" Task Force, credited his office's commitment to working collaboratively towards making the nation's capital safer. "This office is working diligently and collaboratively to achieve a lower rate in violent crime and in crime, across the board, for the residents and visitors to our nation’s capital," Martin highlighted, in a report proudly noting that homicides and robberies have gone down by 30 percent, year-to-date in 2025, as detailed by U.S. Attorney's Office.
In his statement, the U.S. Attorney also expressed his pride in his team's dedication. "I am proud of the tireless work that the people in this office do, day in and day out, to serve this community and their country," Martin said. His office has been active with prosecutions, especially against individuals committing violent crimes near schools and against law enforcement officers, according to the same press release.
As part of their ongoing efforts to reduce crime, charges have been brought in D.C. Superior Court by the Office against individuals involved in violent criminal activities. Laying down vital data provided by the Metropolitan Police Department, robberies and homicides have seen a decline, shaping a narrative of improved security under Martin's tenure.
