Whether you're a budding artist, a curious crafter, or someone just looking to bend it like the Beckham of beadwork, Sertoma Arts Center has something on the agenda that'll get your creative juices flowing without having to break the bank. Comprehensive art classes are scheduled to start next month, catering to various age groups and artistic appetites.
Young, imaginative minds aged 5-11 can join the Imagination Station where they'll dive into a world of drawing, painting, and sculpting. According to the class description, they're going to be "Creating unique art with drawing, painting, collage, papercraft, and sculpture." It's six sessions, supplies included, saving parents the hassle of a last-minute craft store scramble. And for the teens that prefer the clinking of beads to the scratching of pencils, the Youth and Teen Bead Club is a one-session wonder, sure to add some sparkle to their Saturday, as per the City of Raleigh's announcement.
Teens haven't been left out of the picture—quite literally. A sketchbook drawing class is on the docket, focusing on "experimenting with contour drawing, gesture drawing, value and shading, composition, and perspective," as touted on the City of Raleigh's website. Personal style development is the game's name here, with all tools of trade provided.
For those 16 and up, there's the chance to strike your most mindful pose with Kripalu yoga, which is all about discovering "their own degree of flexibility rather than push past their limits." And if contorting your body isn't quite your form of self-expression, maybe heating things up with some basic metalwork or getting your hands dirty in the beginning pottery class is more your speed. Just don't forget to bring your own silver if you're looking to shine in the former.
For aficionados of fine fabrics, there's the Beginning Knitting class, offering three sessions designed for the "absolute beginner." And if you're into more of a public display of artistry, scratch-block workshops with Jim Gallucci await. As per the center's course description, participants will "carve their own design into a sand mold that will be cast with molten iron" for use in Sertoma's expansion. Sertoma also ensures an inclusive experience with their SRIS Clay Exploration program, tailored for individuals with disabilities and supported by experienced instructors.
Regardless of your age or skill level, it seems Sertoma Arts Center is poised to foster creativity in the Raleigh community this coming May.
