The Upper Arlington community is gearing up for an enriching cultural experience with the upcoming Third Annual UA Culture and Artisans Fair. In partnership with St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and the Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS), the fair will take place next Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with support from the UA Community Relations Committee. Approximately 20 artisans from around the world, including refugees and newcomers to the United States, are scheduled to present their unique artworks and handmade products.
This event offers not only a marketplace for these artisans' crafts but also a space for storytelling and personal exchange. According to the event's description on Upper Arlington's official website, attendees can directly interact with the artisans to hear the journeys and narratives intertwined with their works. Additionally, the fair will be complemented by diverse food options and music, creating a truly international ambiance.
The City of Upper Arlington has recognized the value of this event, contributing a $3,000 grant to aid in logistics and promotion. The Culture and Artisans Fair aligns well with the city's Community Relations Innovation Small Grant Program's objectives to foster diversity awareness, encourage community engagement, and enhance the inclusion of all residents, particularly those from non-majority backgrounds and those without existing connections to the community.
Engagement with the fair extends into the realm of community building, as the UA Welcome Series, another initiative by the Community Relations Committee, will feature an informational booth at the event. Here, visitors can learn more about the committee's efforts and initiatives aimed at strengthening community ties.
Irrespective of weather conditions, the fair will unfold on the front lawn of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church, located at 2151 Dorset Road, Upper Arlington. The intersection of Dorset and Tremont Roads is the slated venue, promising a welcoming atmosphere for an expectedly diverse audience. The organizers look forward to welcoming returning and new visitors alike to appreciate and support the vibrant showcase of culture and craftsmanship.
