Drivers in northeast Colorado, prepare for a smoother ride come late May. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced it will be kicking off a resurfacing project on US Highway 287 beginning May 5. The one-mile stretch affected, from US 287C to Ted’s Place (Mile Points 354.5 to 355.7), is just a stone's throw northwest of Fort Collins. This $1.75 million revamp is slated for completion by the end of the month, with Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. handling the heavy lifting as the primary contractor.
CDOT's Regional Transportation Director Heather Paddock remarked, "The resurfacing mill and fill treatment will prolong the life of the road surface," according to CDOT. She added, “The project’s new striping will produce clearer roadway lines, and the upgraded guardrail systems will increase safety through this stretch of highway. The road will be safer, have better ride quality, and ensure a smoother drive for motorists.”
The makeover isn't without its inconveniences, though. Motorists should brace for daytime construction work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, potentially causing single-lane traffic and intermittent delays. And while crews are at work, speed limits will be dialed down to 40 MPH for the traversing of the work zone.
