A Valencia man, Nitun “Nate” Dayalghai Ahir, appeared in court last week facing multiple felony charges including the unlicensed practice of medicine and elder fraud. District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced the arraignment, which officially took place last Friday, according to details released by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office. Ahir is accused of masquerading as a medical professional at Regen Spine and Nerve in Ventura, where he unlawfully claimed to be an experienced practitioner in various medical fields.
Ahir, who has pleaded not guilty to all the charges, has found himself in legal entanglements for allegedly using false credentials to represent himself as a specialist in neurology, neuropathy, chiropractic medicine, and gut health, despite not being licensed or authorized to practice any form of medicine in the state of California, the District Attorney’s Office revealed. The felony complaint also highlights that Ahir reportedly engaged in identity theft by using the personal information of an elder to obtain a line of credit without consent, which brings to light the grim exploitation of vulnerable individuals in our community.
Leading the investigation is the Department of Consumer Affairs, Health Quality Investigations Unit, and they are calling on other possible victims of Ahir to step forward. Senior Deputy District Attorney Andrew Reid, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Special Prosecutions Consumer Protection Unit, is in charge of the prosecution. Ahir, with bail set at $10,000, is scheduled for an early disposition conference on May 1, 2025, where further legal proceedings will take place.
While Ahir remains out of custody, public concern grows over the protection of the elderly and dependent adults against such fraudulent behavior, notably when the accused manipulator has attained a degree of trust among their victims, the special allegations in the court documents included aggravating factors such as the victim's vulnerability and how the crime was carried out indicating planning, sophistication, or professionalism, which adds a layer of complexity and severity to the allegations.
