In a joint effort to bolster morning safety for students and families, the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) and the Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) are rolling out the 'Safe Start to School Days' program. This program will see an increase in police presence during peak drop-off times at select Vallejo schools. The Vallejo Police Department shared details of the initiative to address traffic concerns and pedestrian safety in school zones, beginning tomorrow.
For three consecutive mornings, certain elementary schools, Patterson, Lincoln, and Loma Vista Environmental Science Academy, will experience an uptick in uniformed officers from the VPD; these locations were chosen due to their high traffic volumes and a history that has spotlighted the need for greater safety measures. During a set window, from 8 AM to 8:45 AM, police will manage traffic, assist with crosswalks, and enhance safety protocols.
The schedule for this initiative is specific, with Patterson Elementary being the first tomorrow, with Lincoln Elementary to follow on Thursday, and culminating at Loma Vista Environmental Science Academy on Friday. In one of the statements highlighting the collaboration between VCUSD and VPD, VCUSD Superintendent Rubén Aurelio expressed his enthusiasm, per the Vallejo Police Department, “We are excited to collaborate with the Vallejo Police Department to provide our families with a safer drop-off experience,” adding that the goal is to "ensure every child gets to school safely and our community can confidently navigate the school zones."
