A Southern California woman's jog took a harrowing turn when she was assaulted by a man attempting to kidnap her, but she managed to escape, thanks to her quick reaction and the help of a passerby. The incident occurred on March 25 near the intersection of Telegraph Road and Nevada Avenue in Ventura, just before 2:45 p.m., as reported by KTLA.
According to the Ventura Police Department, the unidentified victim was grabbed in a "bear hug" from behind by Vincent Dominguez, a 28-year-old Ventura resident, while she was wearing headphones and could not hear him approaching. "The victim was able to struggle and break free, running from the suspect," stated the police in a news release. A Good Samaritan who witnessed the attack drove over and allowed the victim to get into her car, further taking several photographs of the fleeing suspect.
Dominguez’s photograph, which circulated on social media, led to his identification after a local recognized him. Additional surveillance footage from the area aided detectives in confirming his identity. The Ventura Police Department’s Instagram post revealed that he was arrested near his residence and booked at the Ventura County Jail for attempted kidnapping.
Details provided by the Ventura Police Department highlight that the victim was not injured during the attempted abduction. While Dominguez now faces legal repercussions for his actions, the quick response of the victim and the Good Samaritan's intervention were crucial in preventing a potentially more severe outcome.
