Early Saturday morning in Ventura saw a high-stakes incident involving a man fleeing from police after allegedly tampering with a vehicle, which escalated into a pursuit that ended with his arrest and the retrieval of a significant quantity of fentanyl. The pursuit began when Ventura Police Department officers were dispatched to the 6600 block of Thille Street following a report from a community member. This individual claimed to have seen a man, later identified as 33-year-old Jacob Aydelotte, meddling with a neighbor's vehicle at an apartment complex.
Officers located Aydelotte riding a bicycle near Balboa Middle School, and when they attempted to approach him, he evaded them on the bicycle, resulting in a chase. The chase continued for several minutes and ended on the 4700 block of Nielsen Street, where an officer used a patrol car to impede his path. In the process, Aydelotte collided with the vehicle, fell from his bicycle, and was then taken into custody. According to KTLA, during the pursuit, the suspect threw 17 grams of fentanyl off a bridge and onto Highway 126.
A subsequent Instagram post by the Ventura Police Department confirmed these events and elaborated that the suspect was positively identified as the individual who had been tampering with the vehicle. The post also noted that no injuries were reported in the incident. Aydelotte is now facing multiple charges, including vehicle tampering, resisting or delaying an officer, possession for sale of a controlled substance, destruction or concealment of evidence, and possession of a hard drug. Beyond those charges, he was found to have six active warrants in Ventura County and one warrant in Santa Barbara County.
Authorities have taken Aydelotte to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked for the aforementioned offenses.
