The Ventura Police Department is seeking information regarding an armed carjacking that took place at Grant Park on Monday evening. According to a report by KTLA, the incident began when a 30-year-old man, seated inside his vehicle, was approached by two male suspects around 8:15 p.m., just before the park's closing time.
"One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a handgun and demanded that the victim exit the vehicle and surrender it," the Ventura Police Department stated in a press release. The victim complied with the demands, and the two suspects took off with his car. Due to the remote location, the victim faced a delay in notifying authorities as he had to make his way from the park to place the call for help.
Officers were immediately dispatched to search for the stolen vehicle, which was found parked and unoccupied in the 100 block of East Center Street in West Ventura. The location was a mere five-minute drive, or approximately one-and-a-half miles, from the scene of the crime at 699 Brakey Avenue, where the carjacking was reported.
In an attempt to apprehend the suspects, a search was conducted on foot in the nearby area, but they were not located. The Ventura Police Department took to their Instagram to share this information and to call on the public for any leads. "Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to give our 24/7 non-emergency line a call at 805-650-8010," stated a post from the Ventura Police Department's IG account. There have been no descriptions provided of the suspects at this time.
