The Wake County Board of Commissioners is seeking public input on a proposed amendment to the regulations for short-term rentals. The amendment aims to remove the current requirement for property owners to also be occupants of their short-term rental properties. This issue will be discussed at the Board's upcoming meeting.
According to Wake County's official announcement, the public can start to sign up to speak at this meeting from 9 a.m. to noon on the day of the said meeting. For those unable to attend in person, online comments are available for submitting feedback. This is the start of an ongoing discussion, with the Board scheduled to consider adopting the changes at a future meeting.
Wake County's current short-term rental policy requires property owners to reside in the homes they rent out on a short-term basis. The proposed amendment would allow non-resident owners to participate in the market. Wake County Commissioner Vickie Adamson noted the importance of public input, saying, "It’s important that we hear from the homeowners from across the county who will be impacted by this amendment," according to the county's announcement.
