A Washington, D.C. man is facing serious charges after an incident at a CVS store last month. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Ramon Randall, 37, has been indicted by a grand jury on a count of felony second-degree theft for the incident at the CVS located at 2009 8th Street NW. The indictment was handed down on April 9, and Randall is set to be arraigned on April 29.

On the day of the incident, March 12, the CVS manager reported to the police that Randall was stuffing goods into a reusable bag without intent to pay. Responding officers reportedly caught Randall trying to exit the store with items totaling $133.27. Included in the theft were several bottles of toothpaste and socks. Randall reportedly protested, per the U.S. Attorney's Office, "I ain’t left the premises!" when confronted by an officer who recognized him. This isn't Randall's first encounter with theft charges; with at least two prior convictions, he's now looking at enhanced penalties and a minimum of one year in jail for each count if found guilty.

The case against Randall is the result of collaborative efforts by the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Liss will prosecute the case. As per standard legal procedure, Randall remains innocent until proven otherwise. His past convictions, however, play a crucial role in the potential for increased sentencing due to D.C. laws targeting repeat offenders.
