Washington, D.C., is gearing up for a petal-packed Saturday as the National Cherry Blossom Festival Petalpalooza is set to color the city pink. With the event scheduled for April 5, those planning to drive through the District might need to rethink their routes hastily. As DC's Metropolitan Police Department announced, several streets will be closed and marked as no-go zones for parking from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the day of the festivities.
Among the closures, motorists will have to avoid 3rd Street from Tingey Street to Water Street, SE, and 4th Street stretching from M to Tingey Street, SE, on the southbound side. If you're thinking of possibly slipping your vehicle into decent parking spots in the area, think again. The authorities have made it clear that emergency no-parking signs will be enforced, and violations will lead to tickets and towing.
The cherry blossoms may bring peace and tranquility, but the traffic situation will likely be the opposite. Delays are expected as the streets teem with pedestrians bewitched by the bloom. The Metropolitan Police Department, alongside the D.C. Department of Transportation, has advised motorists to consider alternative pathways to circumvent the congestion. In a word to the wise and the wheels, they urge drivers to proceed cautiously amidst the anticipated surge in foot traffic.
