The governor of Washington has signed House Bill 1094 into law, granting non-profit property tax exemptions for organizations that rent or lend their real estate to other non-profits or government agencies. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Amy Walen, aims to encourage collaboration among non-profits by reducing financial burdens, as per the Washington State House Democrats release.
Rep. Walen highlighted the importance of community and the role non-profits play in supporting vulnerable populations. The legislation is designed to help entities like recovery support groups and non-profit housing providers, with financial incentives to share resources.
The law will take effect 90 days after the 2025 legislative session ends, expected around April 27, allowing non-profits to begin benefiting from the tax exemption in late July. This change aims to support and strengthen collaborations within the non-profit sector.
