The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department is set to host the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program, aiming to educate children on gun safety through a character named Eddie Eagle and his so-called Wing Team, as noted in their recent social media update. Scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, with two sessions at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., the initiative leads the charge on discussing the often-overlooked aspect of child safety despite ongoing conversations regarding stranger danger and internet safety.
This complimentary initiative, spotlighted in a Facebook post by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department, reveals that the program is backed by three decades of preventive strategies designed to diminish gun accidents involving children; this program, formed by a team of educators, psychologists, and firearm safety experts finds its roots back in 1988 and has remained steadfast in its mission through the years.

Foundational to the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program's philosophy are four simple steps that have been taught to children across generations: "Stop! Don’t touch. Run away. Tell a grown-up." These instructions have been the cornerstone of the program that, since its inception, has aimed to equip children with the correct response should they encounter a firearm, affirming the program's relevance and persistence in furthering child safety, as per the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.
The educational event will be held at the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, located at 515 W. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188. For more details, call 262-548-7122, and families can register for free through the link provided by the Department.
