The hunt for diverse perspectives on wolf management in Wisconsin has officially begun. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is calling for applicants to join its Wolf Advisory Committee (WAC), a move aiming to bring a wide array of viewpoints to the conservation discussion. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit their applications by the May 4 deadline.
Established to support the DNR in carrying out the Wisconsin Wolf Management Plan, the WAC will provide advice on policy decisions, season structures, and harvest quotas through careful deliberation and input. Members must be willing to thoroughly prepare for meetings, regularly attend, and are expected to actively participate in discussions—even when they're faced with challenging conversations with committee peers holding contrasting opinions.
The WAC seeks to include relevant DNR staff, representatives from government agencies, the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, Wisconsin's Ojibwe tribes, as well as ten stakeholder members hailing from various interest groups. These groups encompass Hunting and Trapping, Agricultural and Ranching, Environmental, Conservation Science and Education, and At-Large, Unaffiliated categories. More information on what each category entails can be found on the DNR’s Wolves in Wisconsin webpage.
