As Earth Month begins, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is inviting local communities to volunteer in support of the state's environmental conservation. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has announced a variety of activities for volunteers to participate in, with opportunities available for those able to contribute even just an hour of their time.
In April, Wisconsin offers Work Play Earth Day events where volunteers can help with activities like removing invasive plants, planting trees, and maintaining trails. These events celebrate the 125th anniversary of Wisconsin’s State Park System, and volunteers may receive a souvenir from the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks. April is also Citizen Science Month, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is inviting people to join community science projects, such as tracking bumble bees, monitoring native mussels, and identifying wildlife through Snapshot Wisconsin. More details are available on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Citizen-Based Monitoring webpage.
The State Natural Areas Volunteer Program allows people to help with activities like invasive species control and seed collection to support native species and ecosystems. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources offers these workdays as a way to contribute to conservation while promoting health and recreation. Programs like Friends Groups and the Adopt A Fish or Wildlife Area help with habitat improvements and surveys in over 300 fish and wildlife areas. Volunteers can participate through hands-on work or by donating to support these efforts.
