
The Wren Memorial Library in Siler City, North Carolina, has lined up an array of community-focused programs for May, offering educational and entertaining activities suitable for a range of ages and interests. With offerings that include a special story time with a local author, a gardening class, and STEM workshops, the library aims to engage the Chatham County community in learning and fun.
On May 6, children and families can enjoy "Special Storytime Featuring Author Valerie Harris" from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Harris will read from her stories which feature chickens and baby goats, and the session will conclude with a related craft activity. Although story time is designed for younger children, all are welcomed to experience the joy of storytelling and crafting, according to the Chatham County's announcement.
For those with a green thumb or an interest in learning, "Changing the Garden" will be presented by Chatham County Master Gardener volunteers on May 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This class will provide insights into Lifelong Gardening, focusing on strategies, tools, and techniques that adapt the garden as one ages, ensuring that the pastime remains sustainable and enjoyable well into the future.
The library is also offering a "STEM Builds for Kids" program, set for Mondays, May 12 and May 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. These classes, aimed at 2nd to 5th graders, encourage hands-on learning with tabletop engineering and problem-solving challenges, taught by Erin Denniston, M.Ed, with all materials supplied. The sessions look to spark an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in young minds at an formative age.
