A Yucca Valley man has been taken into custody on multiple charges relating to the continuous sexual abuse of a minor, as stated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department. In a document publicly disclosed, Stephen Spurlock, aged 43, stands accused of enacting a series of felonies that include lewd acts with a child and sodomy of a victim under 16. It is currently reported that Spurlock, who taught at a private school in Rancho Mirage, has victimized a minor continuously since they were 14 years old.
Investigations commenced swiftly after a report of said abuse reached authorities through an Emergency 911 call last Monday. Spurlock was apprehended following an investigation that revealed evidence consistent with the allegations. To immediately safeguard the victim, deputies transported them to Morongo Basin Station. Reports show that Spurlock has molested the victim on countless occasions over the past two years. A subsequent search warrant executed at Spurlock's residence on Tuesday turned up additional evidence supportive of the ongoing abuse.
Spurlock now faces multiple felony charges, which include PC 286, PC 288(a), PC 288.5, PC 287, and PC 289, all tied to sexual offenses involving minors. Currently held without bail due to the serious nature of these charges, he remains in custody at the Central Detention Center. Details have been limited to protect the minor's identity, with the victim's safety being of the utmost concern.
The Sheriff-Coroner's Office has expressed concern that there may be further victims, given Spurlock's position as a teacher and coach. An official statement urges anyone who might have suffered from similar transgressions to contact the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station at 760-366-4175.
