Three individuals sustained injuries from gunshots on Sunday night at the Shoreline Village shopping area in Long Beach, marking the area's nightly stillness with chaos and concern. Among the injured was a 14-year-old boy, who, along with an adult man, self-transported to the hospital, while a woman received an ambulance ride to receive care for her injuries, KTLA reports. According to the Long Beach Police Department, the shooting occurred close to 10:50 p.m. near the intersection of Shoreline and Shoreline Village drives.
Details provided by police suggest that the shooting took place in front of the public docks, a place where boaters typically come ashore, blending with the local crowd, shopping, and enjoying the area, FOX LA adds. The woman was hit in the upper body, and her condition, along with the conditions of the teenage boy and the man, who were shot in their "lower extremities," are reportedly non-life-threatening. As of now, the Long Beach Police Department is investigating whether this violent outbreak may have been gang-related.
In a follow-up to initial reports, the police described a suspect potentially fleeing the site eastbound from the marina on a light-colored vessel, hinting at an escape route along the city's waterways, a detail suggesting the suspect had a deliberate plan to vanish into the night, CBS Los Angeles stated. However, whether the victims were specifically targeted or caught in a random surge of violence remains unclear, and their connections to each other are yet to be established.
