A tense standoff with law enforcement that unfolded in York County ended after several hours when a 70-year-old woman who had reportedly fired shots at her family members was taken into custody. The incident sparked a SWAT team response and concluded with the suspect's arrest, with no injuries reported.
Early reports from WBTV indicated that the woman, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, engaged in a standoff with deputies at a residence on Windsong Forest Road in Clover, steadfastly refusing to emerge or communicate for three hours. According to Sheriff’s Office personnel, the altercation stemmed from a family member conflict, with no one struck by the gunfire.
Additional details provided by QC News revealed that the core issue was an eviction dispute, a matter of domestic territory where the elderly resident did not want a relative living in her home. As described by Deputy Trent Faris in the report, the woman had fired five rounds at family during the matter. While Sheriffs' attempts to pacify the situation were met with failure, the suspect receiving barricaded herself within the home, the SWAT team eventually resolved the ordeal by employing “measures” to extract her from the bedroom.
It was confirmed by the York County Sheriff’s Office on social media and substantiated by WCNC Charlotte that the standoff persisted for a total of three-and-a-half hours, during which there was an assurance of no public danger. Following three hours of engagement without yielding a cooperative resolution, the SWAT team ultimately entered the house. "No one was hit or hurt," the Sheriff's Office told WCNC Charlotte in regard to the earlier shooting incidents. After the suspect's apprehension, she was sent to the York County jail with pending charges.
The neighborhood, outlined by the vicinity of Lloyd White Road, straddles the North Carolina and South Carolina state line, an area otherwise touched by tranquility rather than the echo of gunfire and the anxious wait of a standoff's resolution.
