An Orange County man, Jonathan Gonzalez-Reyes, has been convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a minor, KTLA reported. The 38-year-old from Anaheim was found guilty on multiple counts related to the production, distribution, and possession of child pornography after sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. A co-defendant, Nanci Jasmin Castillo, 32, was also involved in the abuse.
During the trial, evidence emerged that Gonzalez-Reyes and Castillo had plied the young girl with alcohol and anti-anxiety medication before sexually assaulting her and recording the criminal act. Despite the horrific nature of their actions, both defendants have been in federal custody since June 2024 and now face lengthy prison sentences. A search warrant executed on their online cloud accounts revealed a trove of disturbing photos and videos documenting their assault, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Castillo had already pleaded guilty in February to one count of production of child pornography and awaits a sentencing hearing set for July 28. Where she faces a sentence ranging between 15 to 30 years in prison, KTLA reports. Gonzales-Reyes, who encounters similar sentencing guidelines, will also learn his fate on the same day, with a statutory maximum of 30 years in federal prison looming over.
The FBI, together with local law enforcement from the Anaheim Police Department, spearheaded the investigation leading to the duo's arrest and conviction, in a case that has underscored the grim reality of child exploitation in our communities; it was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Chelsea Norell and Blake Hannah, both of whom are part of the Violent, and Organized Crime Section and the General Crimes Section, respectively, as detailed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
