The 96th Los Angeles County Fair kicked off on Friday with a fresh focus on the arts, introducing its "Art Unleashed" theme for a 16-day showcase at the Fairplex in Pomona. As reported by FOX LA, the fair, running through May 26, has partnered with notable LA County art institutions to bring an array of programming and activations spanning the visual to the performative.
Among the highlights, the fair brings both established and emerging artistic talents into the limelight. Renowned groups like The Getty and the Music Center are set to actively engage fair-goers with workshops, performances, and installations. The Music Center will notably bring Flamenco dancers to the Plaza Stage, aiming to mesmerize visitors with the intense emotion and skilled footwork of this storied dance form. To seamlessly intertwine well-being with artistry, the Getty Museum will also be featuring its Getty Pavilion every weekend throughout the fair, according to a statement obtained by CBS News Los Angeles.
Culinary arts haven't been overlooked, as over 150 food concessionaires will present their most innovative creations, including the meatball mozzarella corndog and the chocolate strawberry cup. In line with traditions, the fair will also not hold back on thrilling rides, introducing new adrenaline-pumping additions like a roller coaster named "The Raptor," which KTLA's Jacqueline Sarkissian had the chance to experience firsthand, as reported by KTLA.
Beyond the food and rides, the fair's commitment to cultivating community spaces is evident. The Flower and Garden Pavilion features "BLOOM 2 ART," where the connection between flowers, art, and people is explored through innovative and creative displays. Walter Marquez, president and CEO of Fairplex, highlighted the fair's intent, saying, "Art is a reflection of the creative spirit, and at the fair, it comes to life in countless forms, through crafts, culinary delights and even the excitement of the carnival," in a statement obtained by FOX LA.
For those planning to join the festivities, the fair operates from 5-11 p.m. on opening day, with subsequent days running from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, including Memorial Day. Advanced ticket purchases are recommended as prices vary based on day and age group. Adult ticket prices range from $18.50 to $27.50, while younger patrons and seniors are offered a reduced rate of $15.50. As noted by NBC Los Angeles, there's also a $25 Value Pass available for the first two weeks. Payments for parking, as well as admission and concert tickets, are cashless, facilitating a smoother transaction process.
