AstraZeneca has opened a new $300 million cell therapy manufacturing facility in Montgomery County. The announcement was made last Monday during an event attended by local officials, including County Executive Marc Elrich.
According to the Montgomery County release, located at 9950 Medical Center Drive, the 84,000-square-foot facility will support the production of CAR-T cell therapies, which are used in cancer treatment. The new site is part of AstraZeneca’s broader $3.5 billion investment in research and manufacturing across the United States.
The facility aims to support both clinical trials and commercial manufacturing. County Executive Elrich stated that the investment supports the region’s goals for economic growth and healthcare development.
Elana Fine, Board Chair of the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC), noted that the new facility reflects the county's role in the life sciences industry.
In addition to its healthcare focus, the facility is expected to contribute to job creation and local economic development. Officials have expressed continued support for AstraZeneca as it establishes operations at the new site.
