Vince Dicristofaro, president of AVL, expressed his enthusiasm about entering the U.S. market by selecting Charlotte, he remarked in an interview, "We didn't just choose a location; we chose a community," and he lauded Charlotte's horde of collaboration and deep talent pool as critical factors in their decision.
The establishment of AVL USA, Inc. by its parent company headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario marks the Canadian company’s foray into the American market with a 232,000-square-foot plant located at 13006 Sam Neely Road, the projected jobs include a mix of technicians, production workers, electricians, and management roles with an average salary of $76,052, which sits above the local MSA average. According to a statement obtained by the City of Charlotte, the Governor of North Carolina, Josh Stein, spoke to the reputation of the state's advanced manufacturing capabilities as a magnet for top-tier companies like AVL.
AVL's project, which champions the production and assembly of generator enclosures meant for power redundancy, is seen as a boon for sectors ranging from data centers to emergency management, the products align with AVL’s expertise in supporting backup power needs for large to hyper-scale data centers. Mayor of Charlotte, Vi Lyles, said, "Companies like AVL Manufacturing are a clear sign that our local economy is not just strong — it’s getting stronger every day," her statement suggests that Charlotte's global connectivity and business-friendly climate is a leverage point for new enterprises.
The collaboration between the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County has been a catalyst in convincing AVR to pick Charlotte as their new American domicile, and this latest move is deemed as a success story continuing the trend of investments such as those by Groninger, RXO, and HSP US adding up to significant economic activity, Charlotte and the county have partnered over the past year to garner more than $153 million in investments and create 835 jobs—a fact that Mark Jerrell, Chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners proudly acknowledged, stating that the community's dedication to education and local hiring are pivotal in cultivating viable corporate relationships.
