In a significant boost to the local economy, Governor Josh Stein has announced that AVL Manufacturing will be establishing a new production facility in Charlotte, North Carolina. This move is expected to bring in over 325 new jobs and represents a $56 million investment by the company in Mecklenburg County. "North Carolina’s reputation for advanced manufacturing continues to attract great companies like AVL Manufacturing to our state," Stein remarked in a statement obtained by the Office of the Governor's website.
AVL Manufacturing, hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, has created its U.S. presence under the name AVL USA, Inc. It specializes in crafting custom enclosures for industrial power generators. The new facility in Charlotte will focus on generating and assembling these enclosures for sectors such as data centers, automotive, automation, and emergency management. "After considering many markets, we are thrilled that AVL’s entrance into the U.S. market is in Charlotte," said Vince Dicristofaro, president of AVL, in a statement published on the Office of the Governor's website.
Aiding the establishment of AVL in Charlotte is a performance-based grant of $100,000 from the One North Carolina Fund, contingent on creating 122 jobs as part of the deal. These positions, according to information provided by the Governor's office, will have an average salary above the current county average, standing at $90,088 compared to the $86,830 average of Mecklenburg County. "These new jobs and the company’s capital investment will also bring greater economic success to our community," cited Representative Terry Brown, Jr.
North Carolina is cementing its status as a magnet for international businesses, with AVL's decision shining a light on this trend. As Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley elaborated, AVL's investment underscores the confidence the international market places in North Carolina's potential. "Investments from international companies are an important part of the state’s economy," Lilley added. Numerous partners were involved in bringing this project to fruition, including the local government, the city of Charlotte, and various state departments that highlight the collaborative nature of North Carolina's approach to economic development. "Economic development takes a collaborative effort from state, regional, and local partners," Senator DeAndrea Salvador told to the Office of the Governor.
