A family in Bexar County was thrown into turmoil after a two-year-old boy inadvertently shot himself with a gun found at his residence. The incident, which took place yesterday afternoon in the 6400 block of Candleview Court, resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to the child. According to a report by KSAT, the weapon was left loaded on top of a dresser by the boy's older sibling, 17-year-old Dashayveon Kuhl, who has since been taken into custody. Kuhl is now facing charges including making a firearm accessible to a child, injury to a child, and tampering with evidence.

Amid the chaos that unfolded after the shooting, the bullet managed to strike a water pipe, subsequently flooding the family's home. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar disclosed to FOX San Antonio that six other children were present in the house when the two-year-old shot himself. Adding to the teenager's alleged errors, Kuhl is also accused of attempting to hide the gun in a privacy fence between his home and a neighbor's, further complicating the situation.

Following the incident, emergency responders rushed the child to University Hospital, ensuring prompt medical attention. Sheriff Salazar, overseeing the investigation, emphasized the dire need for constant vigilance in gun ownership. "Responsible gun ownership is a 24-hour endeavor," Salazar told KSAT. This emphasis comes at a time when gun safety and child protection are hotly debated topics within the community and nationwide.

The boy's parents, who were initially detained alongside Kuhl, have not yet faced charges. However, the sheriff made it clear that this could potentially change as the inquiry into the circumstances continues to evolve. In the wake of the event, Texas Child Protective Services has been notified and is likely to conduct a separate assessment regarding the safety and well-being of the children in the home.
