The cities of Boulder, Boulder County, and Jefferson County are merging forces to combat a growing problem in our shared public spaces: dog waste. According to the City of Boulder, a regional effort called "Let’s DOO It!" is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, designed to encourage community members to maintain the beauty of our open spaces and parks by being responsible pet owners.
During the "Let’s DOO It!" weekend, park staff across the region will be out and about, equipping visitors with free dog swag, including bandanas, and guiding them to take a pledge to responsibly dispose of their pet's waste. Initiatives like these hope to actively remind everyone to not leave doggy doo behind because there is, quite frankly, no magical creature to clean up after our pets. It seems Boulder and its neighbors are looking to collectively remind residents to "BAG IT, PACK IT, CAN IT," which means to always bag your pet's waste, carry it out if necessary, and properly dispose of it in a designated trash or pet waste compost bin.
As a part of this campaign, volunteers and staff will perform a rather eye-opening task ahead of the events, flagging every piece of forgotten dog waste at select locations. This visual will starkly illustrate the sheer volume of the problem. Locations included in the weekend's activities are spread throughout the region, with events in the City of Boulder, Boulder County, and Jefferson County, specifically at the Dry Creek Trailhead, Chautauqua Trailhead, Coot Lake Trailhead, Columbia Cemetery, Pella Crossing, and North Table Mountain.
