The City Council unanimously approved a $46.8 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year on Tuesday. The budget allocates $18.7 million—just over 40% of the total—to Public Safety, which includes the Fire Department, Police Department, Dispatch, and Animal Control. “Keeping our community safe is a priority to this Council, to me, and to our 15,000 residents,” said City Manager Ned Thomas. He also noted the city’s continued success in recruiting first responders, according to the City of Boulder City.
Before the final vote, Boulder City held a Special Meeting in April and a workshop to involve residents in the budget process. "The Finance Department staff is committed to budgeting for the future and advancing the long-term fiscal health of our city government," said Finance Department lead Cynthia Sneed, CPA, CGFM. The department is focusing on a balanced budget, maintaining service levels, and reducing future budget changes. Boulder City's property tax rate is $0.2600 per $100 of assessed value. In comparison, Henderson's rate is $0.7408, Las Vegas is $1.0515, and North Las Vegas is $1.1587, as reported by the City of Boulder City.
The approved budget allows for hiring one additional full-time employee, a Fleet Supervisor, to reduce costs by doing more work in-house. It also changes the Parks and Recreation Department staff by adding an Aquatics Coordinator Assistant and bringing back the Parks & Recreation Manager role instead of an Analyst position, with no impact on costs. The total full-time equivalent employees for fiscal year 2025 is 223.4. The budget details are available to the public for review, as stated by the City of Boulder City.
