The Brighton Police Department has unveiled its latest initiative, the Blue Envelope Program, which aims to better serve residents with invisible disabilities. This program provides individuals with the opportunity to communicate their needs to officers more effectively during interactions, particularly traffic stops.
The Blue Envelope requires no mandatory sign-ups or data storage and can be obtained at the Brighton Police Station or by requesting one via email. Individuals can include important documents and information on their invisible disabilities, thus simplifying the exchange with officers. According to the Brighton Police Department's announcement, the objective is to "increase understanding and reduce the potential for miscommunication" — a move that might be a step toward better and safer interactions.
Community members interested in joining the Blue Envelope program or providing suggestions for its expansion can pick one up at the Brighton Police Department located at 3401 E Bromley Ln., Brighton, CO 80601, or have one mailed by sending their request to Kerrigan Blandin at [email protected]. Feedback is encouraged and can be directed to the email above or by calling (303) 655-8747.
