The Bucks County Area Agency on Aging is ready to once again roll out the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program this summer.

Starting June 1, eligible seniors in the community can get their hands on vouchers for fresh produce at local farmers markets, courtesy of the state Department of Agriculture. As per a civic announcement on the county's website, the vouchers can be picked up at senior centers across the area and will be available until the end of September.

Elderly residents aged 60 and above who meet certain income thresholds are encouraged to grab this opportunity not only to support their nutritional needs but also to actively engage with local agriculture. Qualifying individuals will receive a set of five vouchers, each valued at $5.00. It's a simple but significant support system for our senior community to eat fresh and more affordably throughout the summer months.

This year's income guidelines stipulate an eligibility ceiling that varies depending on household size. For a single senior, the income limit is set at $28,953, scaling up to $100,178 for a household of eight. As defined by the program, 'income' encompasses the total money coming in before any deductions.

While the vouchers are expected to be in high demand, supply might not always keep up. If your local center has run out, there's a backup plan. The Bucks County Area Agency on Aging has advised seniors to promptly get onto their mailing list for an application, but be sure to do this well before the mid-September cutoff. This is to virtually ensure that all interested can receive the support they need.
